Kari M., LVT

Practice Manager

Kari went to Delaware Technical and Community College where she received her Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. After graduating from college she studied to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. In the summer of 2012, Kari went to another local animal hospital where she did her internship, which turned into a full-time job. For over 10 years Kari has worked in many, if not all the different positions of the veterinary hospital. She has always dreamed of becoming part of a team that supports and cares for the employees just as much as she cares for and supports the clients' pets.

She recently got married and had her first child. She currently lives in Wilmington with her husband, baby girl and 2 dogs: Henry, a medium mixed breed and Chalupa, a small breed terrier mix. In her spare time, Kari likes to cook, bake, watch movies, spend time with her family, and plan for future adventures.

Krista A., Veterinary Assistant

Meet Krista Adcock, one of our dedicated veterinary assistant's at First State Urgent Vet. With over a decade of experience in animal care, Krista brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to our team. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Food and Animal Science from the University of Delaware, laying a strong foundation for her career in veterinary medicine. Krista is not only passionate about her work but also deeply committed to her family. She shares her life with her loving husband, Jason, and their three adorable fur babies: Gus, Marty, and Elvis. Outside of work, Krista enjoys immersing herself in the vibrant atmosphere of concerts, getting lost in the pages of a good book, and expanding her collection of vinyl records.

Julia E., LVT

Meet Julia Ellison, a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) currently brightening the halls at First State Urgent Vet. Julia's journey to becoming an LVT began at Harcum College, where she absorbed everything she could about veterinary medicine. Now, with five years of diverse experience under her belt, she's adept at handling creatures great and small – from the mightiest horse to the tiniest kitten.


But Julia's love for animals doesn't stop at the clinic doors. At home, she's a proud pet parent to two delightful dogs named Lady and Harley, as well as a charming cat by the name of Zuko. Her free time often involves adventure-filled trips to the park with Lady and Harley, ensuring they get their dose of sunshine and exercise.


Simply put, Julia's life revolves around caring, nurturing, and advocating for animals in all aspects of her life. Whether she's assisting during surgeries or making sure her own pets are living their best! We're grateful to have her as a part of our team.

Ashley F., Veterinary Assistant

Meet Ashley, a devoted member of the First State Urgent Vet - Newark team! Holding an Associates of Applied Science from DTCC and Fear Free Certified, Ashley's commitment to veterinary care is unwavering. With a background in shelter medicine and experience in general practice, Ashley brings a wealth of knowledge to our clinic.


Outside of work, Ashley cherishes time spent with her cherished fur family: Miley the Golden Retriever, Daisy the Border Collie Mix, Raven the Chihuahua Mix, Luna the Rottweiler Mix, and Simba the Spicy Orange Tabby. When not caring for animals, Ashley enjoys beach days and live music. With her compassionate approach and dedication, Ashley is dedicated to providing exceptional care to all furry patients at First State Urgent Vet - Newark.

Rachel C., CSR

Meet Rachel, a dedicated Customer Service Representative for the First State team. With a Baking and Pastry Diploma from Delaware Technical and Community College under her belt, Rachel brings a unique blend of warmth and precision to her role. Her professional journey includes three years of experience as a receptionist, where she honed her organizational and communication skills, followed by a dynamic stint as a tech assistant.

Outside the office, Rachel is a devoted fur-mama to the "bestest boy in the world," her 5-year-old Heeler/Lab Mix, Frank—also known as Frank & Beans. Her love for Frank mirrors her passion for life, which includes embracing the great outdoors, cherishing moments with friends and family, and enjoying the simple pleasure of lounging around with Frank. Rachel's well-rounded life ensures she brings a grounded and joyful presence to our team.

Jennifer L., Veterinary Assistant

Jennifer realized her love for animals at a very young age and has been working in veterinary medicine since 2016. Jen started as a veterinary receptionist and has worked her way up to a technician knowledgeable in general practice, surgery, emergency and exotics. She is a compassionate and motivated animal advocate that loves finding ways to help people and their pets. She currently has three dogs and three cats with the most recent additions being two kittens she rescued from the streets. During her free time she enjoys paintball, traveling, going to new restaurants and spending time with her furry friends and family.

Jennifer

Jennifer W., CSR

Jennifer is a devoted Customer Service Representative at First State Urgent Vet, where her compassionate nature shines through in every interaction with pet parents. Despite being new to the veterinary field, she brings an impressive 12-year background in various sectors of the animal industry, including pet boarding, grooming, and retail. Currently, Jennifer is diligently working towards her Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the prestigious University of Delaware, proving her dedication to expanding her knowledge and skills within animal care.


Outside her professional realm, Jennifer leads a fulfilling personal life. She shares her heart and home with her boyfriend and their adorable trio of cats: Milo, the charming grey tabby; Tilly, the sleek black domestic shorthair; and Fluff, the affectionate grey domestic longhair. In her leisure time, you can find Jennifer lost in the pages of a good book, immersed in captivating video games, exploring the great outdoors on hikes or long walks, or enjoying cozy cuddle sessions with her boyfriend and feline family members. Jennifer's well-rounded lifestyle and unwavering passion for animals speak volumes about her character and the commitment she brings to everything she does..

Nicole S., Veterinary Assistant

Nicole is a graduate from the University of Delaware where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and she is currently enrolled in school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. For the past four years Nicole has worked in general practice, working her way up from reception to veterinary assistant. This is where she learned various technician skills and found her passion in caring for animals.


Outside of work Nicole likes to spend time with her family & friends, snuggle up with her two Tri-Pod kitties, watch Netflix, and play recreational volleyball.

Sydney M., Veterinary Assistant

Meet Sydney Miller, an integral part of the First State team who brings a passion for animal care to her role. With a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science from the University of Delaware, Sydney's educational foundation is rock solid. Eager to expand her expertise, she's currently on the pathway to becoming a certified technician through PennFoster. Before joining us, she honed her skills in a general practice environment that catered to dogs, cats, and exotic animals for nearly four years.

Sydney shares her home with two charming cats, Roland and Korbin Bleu, as well as a normal morph ball python with the delightful moniker Fettuccine "Fetty Wap" Alfredo. Away from work, you can find Sydney indulging in a restful nap, expressing her creativity through painting, or simply enjoying quality time with her friends and her beloved pets. Her zest for life and love for all creatures make her a valuable addition to our team.

Sarah C., Veterinary Assistant

Sarah is a dedicated Vet Assistant at First State Urgent Vet, where her passion for animal care and her extensive knowledge come together to provide exceptional support to the veterinarians and comfort to the animals in need. A proud alumna of the University of Delaware, Sarah graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, a testament to her commitment to understanding and nurturing the well-being of animals.


A Veterinary Assistant elsewhere since 2018, Sarah is now an integral part of the First State Urgent Vet family, bringing warmth, expertise, and a gentle touch to her role. Her journey in veterinary care is marked by a genuine love for animals and a desire to make a positive impact on their lives.


Outside of her professional environment, Sarah shares a home with her boyfriend of eight years. While they currently do not have any pets, the couple looks forward to adopting and expanding their family with furry friends in the near future.
When she's not busy caring for animals, Sarah relishes quality time with her family and friends. Whether it's catching up on her favorite TV shows, losing herself in a good book, or feeling the sand between her toes at the beach!

Jenna D., Client Services Representative

Jenna is a dedicated Client Services Representative at First State Urgent Vet, where her passion for animals shines through in her work. With a decade of experience in the veterinary field, she brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her role. Before venturing into veterinary medicine, Jenna was an active volunteer at the Delaware SPCA, which speaks volumes about her love for animals. Her caring nature extends to her personal life as well, as evidenced by her recent adoption of Frankie, a four-year-old Shih Tzu who has quickly become her beloved companion.

Outside of her professional and pet parenting responsibilities, Jenna is an avid photographer, with a keen eye for capturing life's moments. She also enjoys the thrill of the hunt while antiquing, immersing herself in the pages of a good book, exploring new music, and fulfilling her role as the 'cool aunt' to her niece and nephew. Jenna's multifaceted interests not only make her an asset to First State Urgent Vet but also add depth to her character as an individual who cherishes both her professional and personal pursuits.

Jessica C., Client Services Representative

Jess has been passionate about animal care since 2008, starting her career in the field of exotic animals. Originally from the mountains of central Pennsylvania, she relocated to Delaware in 2018, coinciding with her transition into the veterinary sector. Jess has always thrived in team environments, and she's thrilled to be a part of First State, where the mission aligns with her sense of purpose.

Jess shares her home with her spouse and their four beloved pets: three cats, Monsta (the challenge), Tillie (the princess), Patrick (everyone’s best friend), and a canine companion, Sparky. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with her family, friends, and her furry family members. Jess is excited to welcome you to First State Urgent Vet and looks forward to ensuring you and your pets have the best experience possible.
